What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tax Accountant position at Distinct | North America?
Tax Accountant
Addison, Dallas, TX
$85,000 to $100,000
A chance to build stronger client relationships and see the bigger picture after 4/15
Once 4/15 is out of the way, most tax professionals finally get a bit of space to think.
That is usually when the real questions start. Not just whether you want to move, but whether you want your next role to give you more than another cycle of returns, deadlines, and repeat.
This opportunity is with a Dallas based CPA and Investment Advisory firm where tax, accounting, and financial planning all sit under one roof. That creates a very different environment from a more traditional public accounting setup.
You will still be building your tax skills, but you will also get much closer to the wider client picture. Same clients. Stronger relationships. A better understanding of how tax fits into broader financial decisions.
You are not just preparing returns and passing work along. You will have more direct client contact, be part of planning conversations alongside Wealth Advisors, and start developing the judgement that helps people grow into more senior roles.
What you’ll be doing
Preparing and reviewing federal and state returns across individuals, partnerships, and closely held businesses
Supporting the delivery of high quality tax work across the client base
Building stronger day to day relationships with clients
Sitting in on planning conversations alongside Wealth Advisors
Developing a broader understanding of how tax connects with financial planning
Using tools such as QuickBooks and ProSystem, with CCH experience a plus
Why this role could be a good move
It offers a broader view than a pure production role
It gives you more exposure to clients and advisers
It helps you build commercial judgement, not just technical skill
It creates a clearer path toward Manager over time
This could suit a Tax Senior already in public accounting who is comfortable speaking with clients and wants a role with more variety, more visibility, and more long term upside.
CPA completed or in progress would be ideal.
How to apply (without the fuss)
Most people treat job ads like a box-ticking ritual. Don’t.
If this resonates, apply. The button isn’t a marriage proposal it’s a conversation starter.
Prefer the human touch? Call me: 972-807-7244. If the platform hides it, I’m Alex Alcock (Distinct) on LinkedIn. I’m around from 6am CST and after 5pm CST.
Only at ~87% of the spec? Perfect. Apply anyway. The CPA firms I work with want interesting, capable people, not carbon copies.
Don’t overthink it. Worst case: a helpful chat about your next step. Best case: the role that gets you unstuck.
