What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Associate position at Distinct | North America?
Tax Senior
Columbia, South Carolina (Hybrid)
$85,000 to $100,000
There’s something reassuring about a firm that still believes in doing tax properly.
Real training. Real files. Real conversations with clients who actually value advice.
This is one of those firms.
They’re looking to add a Tax Senior to their team. Someone who knows their way around 1040s, 1120s, 1065s, and 1041s. Someone who enjoys seeing a return through properly, understanding the story behind the numbers, and spotting opportunities rather than just ticking boxes.
You’ll start out in the office for the first few weeks. Not because they are rigid, but because training matters. Getting to know the team matters. Once you’re up to speed, the role moves to a hybrid setup with flexibility that feels sensible rather than forced.
The work is classic public accounting in the best way.
A mix of individual, partnership, corporate, and trust returns. Planning conversations with clients. Reviewing work. Helping less experienced staff improve. Being trusted to manage your own workload without someone constantly looking over your shoulder.
This is a role for someone who enjoys client interaction and takes pride in delivering work that is clean, thoughtful, and defensible.
What you’ll be doing
- Preparing and reviewing 1040s, 1120s, 1065s, and 1041s
- Supporting tax planning and advisory work
- Managing multiple engagements without drama
- Building long term client relationships
- Staying sharp on tax law and best practice
What they’re looking for
- Three to five years in a CPA firm
- Strong experience across individual and business tax
- A degree in Accounting or Taxation
- CPA preferred, but not a blocker
- Comfortable using CCH Axcess, Checkpoint, and Intuit products
What tends to keep people here is simple. They feel supported. They are trusted. And they are not burnt out for the sake of it.
If you’re a Tax Senior who wants a role that feels familiar in a good way, this is worth a conversation.
Feel free to reach out to Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment to discuss any questions.
Ryan Jaiswal is a Recruiter for Distinct Recruitment. He is an ex Accountant who is a little better at recruiting than he was at doing 1040s or reviewing financial statements. He’s handled Accountancy recruitment for clients since 2009. His particular specialism is recruiting for CPA firms as well as some assignments in private industry to support his CPA firm’s clients. Outside of work he's a dad of young twins who keep him busy. So, if you want to talk to a recruiter who gets the need for flexibility or work life balance, he will certainly understand.
