What are the responsibilities and job description for the Client Accounting Services Manager position at Distinct | North America?
Outsourced Accounting Manager/ Client Accounting Services Manager
Family Office / HNW
“We don’t run this team like a back office function. You’re in front of clients, shaping relationships, and building something.”
This is a different kind of CAS role.
You’re not just reviewing work or sitting behind the scenes. You’re stepping into a family office environment where the clients expect a higher level of thinking, communication, and trust.
The firm is well established in the Chicagoland market and has grown steadily over time. The CAS team is now around 50 people, and this hire is about strengthening their family office offering as that side of the business continues to expand.
In this role, you’ll work closely with high net worth individuals and family offices, typically in the $50m to $300m range, with some significantly larger. These are complex client situations where the expectation goes beyond clean books.
The work is accounting and advisory led.
- You’ll be leading client engagements, owning relationships, and being part of the conversations that bring new clients in. This isn’t a passive role. You’ll be expected to show up well, build trust quickly, and help grow this area of the firm.
- Alongside that, you’ll manage a team responsible for the day to day delivery. That includes investment tracking, maintaining commitment schedules, month end close, and producing financial reporting across individuals and entities.
- You’ll also work closely with the family office tax team, supporting across a range of returns including partnerships, individuals, fiduciary, foundations, corporate, and gift. It’s a joined up approach rather than siloed teams.
- There’s also a problem solving element. Reviewing responses to notices, improving processes, and helping shape how work is delivered across the team.
The structure around you is strong. Mentorship is built in. Progression is real and based on what you do, not just time served. There’s flexibility in how people work and no pressure around billable hour targets.
What matters here is impact, not a number.
You’ll be a good fit if –
- You’ve spent time working with high-net-worth individuals or family office clients
- You have your CPA & 8 years public accounting experience
- You’ll need to be comfortable being on site with clients when needed.
But if you’re at that point where you want more ownership, more visibility, and the chance to actually influence growth rather than just support it, this is where it starts to get interesting.
Not ready with a resume? Or want a bit more information before applying? No problem. Think you only have 87% of the required experience? Perfect - apply anyway. The CPA firms we partner with want diverse, interesting people, not corporate clones stamped from the same tedious mould.
Don’t overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that's where it gets rather exciting.
