What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audit Manager position at Distinct | North America?
Audit Manager
Public accounting experience essential
$125,000 to $155,000 - Hybrid
You shouldn’t have to choose between progressing your career and actually having a life outside of work.
If you’re at Manager level and starting to question whether the next step just means more hours, more pressure, and less time for anything else, this is where people tend to look.
This firm is set up differently. You can grow, take on real responsibility, and build toward Partner without feeling like you need to burn yourself out to get there.
They are thinking long term. There is a Partner retirement coming up, and they are actively building the next group of leaders now. You would be stepping into senior responsibility straight away, with a clear path forward and people around you to support it.
You will not be doing this on your own.
You will be joining alongside others at a similar level, so responsibility is shared, ideas are talked through, and decisions are collaborative. It is a team environment where it actually feels like everyone is working toward the same thing.
What you will be doing -
- Leading and developing a team
- Managing your own client portfolio
- Working closely with owner managed and family owned businesses
- Collaborating with peers on technical and strategic decisions
The client base is strong and varied, with a focus on manufacturing and construction, alongside other closely held businesses. Most clients sit in the $20m to $75m range, with exposure up to around $500m.
You will have real ownership here. Clients, people, decisions. But without the politics or isolation that can come with more senior roles in larger firms.
The balance is also genuinely there.
- Four day work weeks in the summer
- A culture that supports having a life outside of work
- Leadership that focuses on sustainability rather than burnout
It is a smaller firm environment where you actually know the people you work with and build proper relationships, both internally and with clients. That is a big part of why people stay.
You will need your CPA and the mindset of someone who wants to step into leadership, shape the future of a firm, and build a long term career without sacrificing everything else alongside it.
Not ready with a resume? Or want a bit more information before applying? No problem. You can still apply the old-fashioned way, or just reach out to start a conversation with Imogen via LinkedIn or the Distinct Recruitment website. She’ll be happy to tell you more about the firm, the job and the prospects before you commit further.
Think you only have 87% of the required experience? Perfect - apply anyway. The CPA firms we partner with want diverse, interesting people, not corporate clones stamped from the same tedious mould.
Don’t overthink it. The worst outcome is a pleasant conversation about your career. The best? Well, that's where it gets rather exciting.
