We are seeking experienced, reliable, and detail-oriented Line Cooks to support professional kitchen operations throughout Chicago, Illinois.

The ideal candidate has strong cooking skills, understands food safety procedures, and can prepare high-quality meals efficiently in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

Cooking & Food Preparation

• Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to standardized recipes and kitchen specifications.
• Operate commercial cooking equipment, including grills, ovens, fryers, stovetops, and sauté stations.
• Prepare proteins, vegetables, sauces, soups, and other menu components.
• Maintain food quality, taste, consistency, and appropriate portion sizes.
• Complete assigned food preparation tasks before and during service.
• Monitor food temperatures and follow safe cooking, cooling, and holding procedures.
• Prepare meals according to customer dietary restrictions and allergen-handling requirements.
• Maintain properly stocked and organized cooking stations.
• Coordinate with chefs and kitchen supervisors to ensure timely meal preparation.

Food Safety & Sanitation

• Follow applicable Illinois and Chicago food safety regulations.
• Maintain clean and sanitized workstations, equipment, and utensils.
• Properly label, date, rotate, and store food products.
• Follow established food handling and cross-contamination prevention procedures.
• Maintain proper personal hygiene and kitchen sanitation standards.
• Report food safety hazards and equipment concerns to supervisors.

Kitchen Operations & Teamwork

• Assist with inventory receiving, storage, and organization.
• Support kitchen opening, closing, and cleaning procedures.
• Follow daily production sheets and assigned kitchen responsibilities.
• Communicate professionally with kitchen staff and management.
• Follow workplace safety procedures and facility-specific operating standards.
• Maintain accurate time records for all hours worked.

Qualifications

Required

• Previous experience working in a professional kitchen or similar food service environment.
• Knowledge of commercial cooking techniques and kitchen equipment.
• Ability to prepare food according to recipes and service standards.
• Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and temperature controls.
• Ability to follow verbal and written job instructions.
• Strong teamwork, organization, and time-management skills.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to complete required food handler training within the applicable legal timeframe.

Preferred

• 2 or more years of professional Line Cook experience.
• Experience working in restaurants, hotels, catering, or commercial kitchens.
• Current Illinois-compliant Food Handler Training certificate.
• ServSafe Food Handler or Certified Food Protection Manager credential.
• Strong knife skills and experience working multiple cooking stations.
• Knowledge of food allergies, dietary accommodations, and portion control.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive kitchen tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to work safely around heat, sharp utensils, and commercial cooking equipment.
• Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Pay: $20.00–$22.00 USD

Actual pay within the advertised range will be determined by relevant experience, qualifications, assigned responsibilities, and applicable worksite requirements.

• Eligible employees receive overtime compensation in accordance with applicable federal, Illinois, and Chicago requirements.
• Covered employees accrue paid leave and paid sick and safe leave as required by Chicago law.
• Work schedules and available hours depend on operational staffing needs.
• Weekly hours are not guaranteed.
