What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Technician position at DISCOVERY SCHOOLS LLC?
A Discovery Schools Behavior Technician/ Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides 1:1 and small group behavioral support to students, implementing individualized treatment plans and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) designed by the Behavior Analyst (BCBA). They work in classrooms to reduce problematic behaviors, increase social/academic skills, and collect data, often helping with IEP implementation and crisis intervention.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Direct Implementation: Delivers 1:1 or small group supports/ services, implementing BIPs and skill acquisition programs with fidelity.
- Data Collection: Records precise data on behavior, frequency, duration, and skill acquisition (e.g., A-B-C data).
- Support & Collaboration: Collaborates with teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to support students within the classroom environment, including managing transitions and social interactions.
- Behavior Reduction: Implements strategies to decrease challenging behaviors and teaches appropriate replacement behaviors.
- Crisis Management: Leads/assists team in supporting a student in crisis.
- Documentation: Maintains accurate behavioral data and clinical notes to assist in developing or modifying IEP goals.
- Training & Safety: Participates in staff training, applies safe crisis management techniques, and follows school safety policies.
Key Requirements
- Certification:
- Required: Sub certification or eligible to receive within 30 days
- Preferred: Valid RBT Certification from the BACB. Extensive experience will be considered.
- Education: High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
