Location: Scottsdale, AZ

Duration: 10-12 weeks (Summer 2026)

The internship will focus on enhancing the performance, scalability, and reliability of Discount Tire’s digital platforms and enterprise systems. As a performance engineering intern, the candidate will work alongside the Quality Management Office (QMO) and IT teams to identify, analyze, and resolve system bottlenecks, optimize resource utilization, and contribute to the development of robust performance testing strategies. As a Discount Tire Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a team of experienced professionals and gain practical experience in a fast-paced, fun, and challenging environment. You will have access to senior leadership and visibility to multiple facets of the business of Information Technology, with a program mission of “providing high potential students’ knowledge and experience to guide them in future career decisions.” Additional program specific activities will provide team building opportunities and the requirement to present to senior leaders within the IT business segments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in designing and executing performance tests for Discount Tire’s eCommerce applications.
• Identify and analyze system bottlenecks affecting speed, reliability, and scalability.
• Collaborate with the Quality Management Office (QMO) and eCommerce development teams to optimize resource utilization.
• Document test results, findings, and recommendations in clear, actionable reports.
• Contribute to the development of scalable performance testing strategies and best practices.
• Present insights and solutions to improve the customer experience and support business growth.
• Gain hands-on experience with performance engineering tools and methodologies relevant to eCommerce platforms.
  
  

Skills & Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

• Basic Programming Knowledge: Familiarity with at least one programming language (such as Python, Java, or C ).
• Understanding of Software Fundamentals: Basic grasp of how web applications and enterprise systems work.
• Introductory Experience with Testing Tools: Exposure to any performance or testing tools (e.g., JMeter, NeoLoad, or similar) is a plus, but not required.
• Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data and identify trends or bottlenecks using spreadsheets or simple monitoring dashboards.
• Database Basics: Understanding of basic database concepts and ability to write simple queries (e.g., SQL).
• Willingness to Learn: Openness to learning new tools and technologies related to performance engineering.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Only Junior or Senior-level students or May 2026 graduates are eligible.
• Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software systems.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities.
