Unit: Lab

Unit Description: Currently looking for a Permanent Placement Section Head for the Blood Bank.

Provider will be required to: Supervise the prompt and accurate completion of the technical activities of the personnel assigned to the blood bank. Ensure the proper maintenance, calibration and function of all equipment assigned to the Blood Bank cost center. Display competency with departmental instrumentation, particularly troubleshooting skills. Successfully train subordinates in the activities. Ensure timely resolution of pending list. Ensure that pre-op abnormals and critical values are promptly phoned and documented in the computer. Review quality control, action and maintenance logs for completeness and accurate documentation. Ensure review of patient results released by department. Review and update the department’s procedure manuals as needed, including BB LIS policies. Is familiar with current transfusion service regulatory environment. Assist, initiate and review updates for new technical methods. Assign and monitor timely, accurate completion of proficiency testing. Delegate supervisory responsibilities as appropriate. Monitor control and reagent lot usage. Maintain total Blood Bank inventory control. Monitor and maintain quality indicators for BB in cooperation with Manager and the QA coordinator. Assist in student orientation as required. Ensure monthly blood utilization report is prepared. Facilitate relations between department and American Red Cross blood sources. Perform regular duties of bench technologist as required. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Salary will be compensate for experience. Relocation allowance is available.

Qualifications

successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years experience working in a hospital laboratory blood bank service. Familiarity with transfusion service regulations and LIS modulated cross-matching is desirable. Credentialed with ASCP–BB and/or SBB is preferred, a BS, MT with expansive BB experience would be considered.
