What are the responsibilities and job description for the MD Provider-Pain Specialist position at Direct Orthopedic Care?
Direct Orthopedic Care (DOC) is a physician-led, private orthopedic practice seeking a Pain Management Physician to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. Our model emphasizes interventional pain management, physical therapy, and lifestyle-based care, with a strong focus on improving function and quality of life without reliance on opioids.

Practice Setting

Clinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate and treat guests in-office and via telemedicine
- Perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
- Interpret and document in-house imaging
- Order appropriate imaging, labs, and referrals
- Perform interventional pain procedures
- Prescribe non-opioid medications when clinically appropriate
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR
- Participate in rare after-hours or weekend call coverage
APP Oversight & Leadership
- Provide clinical oversight of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs)
- Meet weekly with APPs to review clinical and operational data
- Conduct quarterly performance and goal-setting meetings
- Perform monthly chart reviews in accordance with Texas Medical Board guidelines
Operational & Service Line Collaboration
- Participate in monthly clinic operations meetings with managers, APPs, and MAs
- Meet weekly with the procedure scheduling team to review outstanding orders
- Collaborate weekly and quarterly with DOC leadership to:
- Review service-line performance metrics
- Identify opportunities to improve access, efficiency, and outcomes
Ideal Candidate
- Board-certified or board-eligible in Pain Management (or interventional-focused specialty)
- Commitment to non-opioid, function-based pain care
- Comfortable in a leadership role with APP oversight
- Collegial, efficient, and patient-focused
