Direct Counsel is seeking a Scribe to support exam takers during the February Bar Exam in the Bay Area. This is a unique opportunity for detail-oriented professionals to provide critical assistance in a structured, high-stakes testing environment.
Role Overview
Scribes will handwrite (in block letters) the dictated responses of the exam taker verbatim during each testing session. This role requires precision, stamina, professionalism, and the ability to maintain accuracy over long periods.
Minimum Requirements
General Qualifications

Highly dependable, composed, and able to instill confidence in the exam taker

Prior experience as a legal secretary, legal assistant, paralegal, or similar role strongly preferred

Must not be a law clerk, law student, or licensed attorney in any jurisdiction
Specific Skills

Ability to legibly write verbatim dictation without reference tools (e.g., dictionaries or electronic devices)

Must write exclusively in block letters

Ability to read written responses back to the exam taker clearly

Prior scribing experience—especially in timed or extended testing environments—strongly preferred

Minimum high school diploma; bachelor’s degree preferred
Schedule & Time Commitment

Orientation:
February 23 — 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM -
Exam Days:
February 24, 26, 28 (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday)
7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (or earlier, if completed sooner)
Candidates must be available for all days listed, without exception.
