Direct Counsel is seeking a Tax Associate to join a prestigious and growing tax practice in Washington, D.C. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in tax law, outstanding analytical and writing skills, and experience with—or a strong interest in—real estate-related tax matters.
Responsibilities
- Advise clients on the tax aspects of complex real estate transactions
- Analyze and structure transactions involving:
- Real estate investments
- REITs
- Real estate acquisitions and dispositions
- Joint ventures
- Financing transactions
- Conduct tax research and prepare legal memoranda on sophisticated tax issues
- Assist with transaction structuring, due diligence, and tax planning strategies
- Draft and review transaction documents with tax considerations in mind
- Collaborate with real estate, finance, corporate, and investment funds attorneys
- Participate in client meetings and transaction execution
- Advise clients on evolving tax laws, regulations, and market developments affecting real estate investments
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Law school class years 2022 and above
- Strong understanding of tax law fundamentals
- Experience with, or a demonstrated interest in:
- Real estate transactions
- REITs
- Real estate investment structures
- Excellent legal research and writing abilities
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to think creatively and develop practical solutions to complex tax issues
- Outstanding academic credentials
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $260,000 – $420,000
