Direct Counsel represents a prestigious law firm seeking a Labor & Employment Counsel to join its Los Angeles office. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced employment litigator with 9–12 years of experience handling sophisticated labor and employment matters, including single-plaintiff litigation, class actions, and PAGA claims.
The ideal candidate will have substantial experience independently managing employment litigation matters from inception through resolution, as well as advising clients on federal and California employment laws and regulations. Candidates with strong litigation, counseling, and deposition experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Manage labor and employment litigation matters from inception through resolution
- Defend employers in single-plaintiff litigation matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour claims, and reasonable accommodation issues
- Handle PAGA and class action matters
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests, and discovery responses
- Draft and argue dispositive motions and discovery motions
- Take and defend depositions, including plaintiff and corporate witness depositions
- Conduct legal research and develop litigation and case strategy
- Advise clients on federal and California employment laws and compliance matters
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and internal legal teams
- Manage case deadlines, discovery, and overall litigation workflow independently
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- 9–12 years of labor and employment litigation experience
- Strong experience handling single-plaintiff employment litigation matters
- Experience with PAGA claims and employment class actions required
- Experience managing cases independently from start to finish
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Experience drafting and arguing motions, including dispositive and discovery motions
- Experience taking and defending depositions, including corporate witness depositions
- Employment counseling experience involving federal and state employment laws and regulations
- Small portable book of business preferred, but not required
- Strong academic credentials required
- Licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of California

Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range: $280,000 – $305,000 annually
