Labor & Employment Attorney

Direct Counsel has partnered with a premier California law firm to hire an Employment Litigation Associate. This is a unique opportunity to join the firm’s growing Labor & Employment practice and take on a significant role representing private and public-sector employers in complex employment litigation.About the RoleThe ideal candidate will have 4–7 years of substantive labor and employment law experience, including counseling, investigations, training, employee relations, negotiations, and litigation. This role involves handling a wide range of employment matters and offers meaningful opportunities for trial, arbitration, and client advisory work.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide advice and counsel to employers on federal and state employment law complianceConduct workplace investigations and provide training on employment best practicesHandle employee relations and labor/employee negotiationsLitigate employment matters involving:Discrimination, harassment, and retaliationFLSA and wage and hour issues, including class and collective actionsDraft motions, pleadings, and legal memorandaManage written discovery and depositions (taking and defending)Draft EEOC position statements and DFEH/CRD responsesConduct witness interviews and prepare for depositions, hearings, and trialPreferred ExperienceTrial or arbitration experienceStrong investigation backgroundExperience advising on:ADA/FEHA compliance and disability accommodationsFMLA, CFRA, PDL, and related leave lawsCOVID-related workplace laws, regulations, and ordersLabor relations or employee relations experienceQualificationsActive membership in the California State Bar in good standing is required4–7 years of labor & employment experience requiredExcellent academic credentialsOutstanding analytical, research, and writing skillsStrong work ethic and commitment to exceptional client serviceAbility to work independently and collaborativelySolid knowledge of California employment lawEnthusiasm for growing a practice within a supportive, team-oriented environmentCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $160,000–$200,000 (based on experience, skills, and location)Hybrid scheduleReasonable billable hours requirementAnnual discretionary and billable hours bonusesCompetitive health insurance benefits401(k) with partial matchProfit-sharingEqual Opportunity Employer:The firm is committed to diversity and inclusion and does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, military or veteran status, or any other category protected by law.
