Litigation Paralegal - Labor & Employment
Direct Counsel is partnering with a leading California law firm seeking a highly skilled Litigation Paralegal to support its Labor and Employment Group. This team focuses exclusively on labor and employment defense, representing corporations, public entities, non-profits, and public-private partnerships across the state. The practice provides sophisticated, operations-focused guidance on class actions, PAGA, employee classification, discipline and terminations, leaves of absence, workplace culture, social media issues, disability accommodations, employee privacy and free speech rights, whistleblower laws, and internal and external complaint management. The Group also serves as lead negotiators and labor counsel for employers engaged with labor organizations.
The Litigation Paralegal will work closely with attorneys throughout all stages of federal and state court litigation—from initial pleadings through discovery, motion practice, trial, and appeal. Core responsibilities include proactive case management from inception through post-trial or settlement; drafting, reviewing, and revising legal documents; maintaining case files and discovery logs; managing document productions; supporting deposition and hearing preparation, including exhibit organization and witness outlines; cite-checking briefs for legal and factual accuracy; coordinating document review; and partnering with the Litigation Support Group on database management using iPro or other eDiscovery platforms.
This role requires meeting an annual billable requirement of 1,575 hours, working extended hours when necessary, and traveling as needed to support case activity. The position also requires excellent client service and consistent, reliable on-site attendance.
Required Qualifications
Ability to work and bill as a paralegal under California Business & Professions Code § 6450
Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program and a minimum of five years of paralegal experience in a California law firm or in-house legal department (bachelor’s degree preferred)
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365
Experience with iPro or comparable eDiscovery software, and Adobe Acrobat Pro XI
Strong legal research skills, with experience using Westlaw (preferred) or Lexis
Thorough understanding of legal procedures, rules of court, and local rules
Hands-on eDiscovery experience
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate effectively within a team
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and strict confidentiality
A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this position is $48.07 to $54.32 per hour. Final pay is based on several factors including but not limited to internal equity, office location, market data, and the applicant’s education, work experience, certifications, etc.
