What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Diocese of Davenport?
Scott County Catholic Schools (SCCS) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Assistant Controller to support and help lead the day-to-day accounting operations of our school system. This role supports financial stewardship across our schools and provides continuity of operations.
What You’ll Do
Financial Operations & Reporting
- Support daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, tuition processing, and billing.
- Prepare financial analyses and reports.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close.
- Support development of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor budget performance.
Leadership & Internal Controls
- Execute and monitor internal controls to minimize organizational risk.
- Prepare, review, and approve routine accounting transactions within delegated authority.
- Provide guidance to accounting staff and collaborate with the Controller and Director of Finance.
- Serve as acting Controller during the Controller’s absence.
Tuition, Community & Foundation Support
- Assist schools, parents/guardians, and staff with ESA and tuition questions.
- Track and report tuition payments and discounts.
- Support Foundation accounting, including bank and investment account monitoring.
- Complete monthly billing and student onboarding support, including daycare state reporting.
Audit & Compliance
- Assist with annual audit preparation.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements.
What We’re Looking For
- Associate’s degree in accounting or related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- Five years of related accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
