Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer supports a large and diverse portfolio of churches, schools, and administrative buildings across Brooklyn and Queens. Many facilities include legacy infrastructure and large-volume worship spaces requiring thoughtful evaluation, maintenance oversight, and modernization planning.
The Mechanical Engineer will independently evaluate systems, troubleshoot operational issues, analyze utility performance, and implement practical cost-saving and reliability improvements.
Core Responsibilities
Building Systems Oversight
- Manage replacement, operation, and specifications for steam and hydronic boiler systems
- Support commercial HVAC systems (RTUs, pumps, heat exchangers, and distribution systems)
- Assist with electrical power distribution systems
- Coordinate fire alarm, fire suppression, and elevator systems
- Review drawings, submittals, and technical specifications
- Develop maintenance scopes and performance-based service specifications
- Perform or manage troubleshooting of system failures
- Support capital planning and modernization projects
Energy & Utility Management
- Analyze electric, gas, and oil utility bills for billing errors
- Identify submetering opportunities
- Resolve shared meter or allocation discrepancies
- Track abnormal consumption patterns
- Identify and implement energy cost-reduction opportunities
Controls & Optimization
- Support and optimize HVAC controls and Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Evaluate system scheduling, staging, and performance
- Recommend operational improvements for comfort and efficiency
- Assist with sustainable energy and performance initiatives
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of progressive hands-on facilities, mechanical, and electrical engineering experience
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, boilers, and electrical distribution
- Experience analyzing utility billing and energy performance
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Experience in institutional and multi-building portfolios
- Strong written and organizational skills
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in MS Suite, Microsoft Excel (data analysis), Word, and PowerPoint
- Familiarity with HVAC controls and Building Management Systems strongly preferred
- Ability to travel frequently to properties throughout Brooklyn and Queens
Salary : $80,000 - $110,000
