What are the responsibilities and job description for the Information Technology Technician position at Diocese of Beaumont?
Under the direction of the Director of Information Technology and in accordance with established policies and procedures, professional staff member who, at the direction of the Director, is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing hardware & software components of Diocesan computers. They also support these systems through remote access or site visits as needed. Two to five years’ experience and/or training or certifications; Associates Degree (A.S.) in Computer Science preferred. Must have experience in third party interfaces, network connectivity and configuration, and multi-server environments.
Requirements:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Utilizing Office 365 Admin portal to set up new users accounts, email profiles, and access permissions.
- Respond to help desk tickets and provide first-level technical support via phone, email, or in person
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, printer and network issues.
- Assist with installation and configuration of computer systems and applications.
- Maintain and monitor computer systems, printers, and peripheral devices.
- Document issues, solutions, and updates in the ticketing system.
- Follow standard operating procedures and escalate complex issues when necessary.
- Support onboarding/offboarding processes for employees.
- Perform routine system checks and updates.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Monitors help desk software requests for service, computer equipment, etc.
- Works on-site with Parishes to determine their hardware and software needs. Provides technical support from time-to time
- Under the direction of the Director, assists with special projects
SYSTEM
- At direction of the Director assists with network operating system, and PC software
- At direction of the Director assists with overall computer network administration functions
- Responsible for installation of operating system software, at direction of the Director
- Assists with telecommunications upgrades and installations
HARDWARE
- Responsible for assisting with on-going installation, upgrade, and maintenance of computer and telecommunication equipment
- At direction of the Director performs minor computer hardware repairs/upgrades
- Responsible for assisting with the management of multisite I.P. telephone system
- At direction of the Director, manages Verizon Cellphone Account and Phones
SOFTWARE
- Assists with determining and recommending PC and network software applications
- At direction of the Director, responsible for implementation, documentation and maintenance of all custom database applications in use within the Diocese
- Provides input to Director on policy concerning software use
USERS
- Responds to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and the operation of various software programs
- Adds/deletes and maintains users, passwords, and access levels for parish/school software programs.
- Performs basic instruction on the use of equipment and software
- Answers clients’ inquiries in person and via telephone concerning system operation. Diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisor responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two to five years’ experience and/or training or certifications; Associates Degree (A.S.) in Computer Science preferred. Must have experience in third party interfaces, network connectivity and configuration, and multi-server environments.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a current valid Texas Driver’s License and must attend the Safe Environment Training and earn a certificate.
