What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Information Technology position at Diocese of Beaumont?
Under the direction of the Director of Building Operations, Construction, and Properties and in accordance with established policies and procedures, professional staff member who directs, coordinates, and supervises all aspects of the Diocesan IT Department. Assesses overall Information System and Telecommunication needs. Directs out-source vendors in implementation and ongoing maintenance of those systems.
Requirements:ADMINISTRATIVE
- At direction of the Director of Building Operations, Construction, and Properties evaluates specifications to procedures, starting and completion times of work assignments, staffing requirements, and financial needs for ongoing IT solutions.
- Monitors help desk software requests for service, computer equipment, etc.
- Works with the Director of Building Operations, Construction, and Properties to establish and manage IT department budget
- Directs and supervises third party vendor contracts for maintenance and consulting services
- Determines IT technology solutions
- Works as needed on-site with Parishes to assist their hardware and software needs. Provides technical support from time-to time
- Directs special projects
SYSTEM
- Determines network operating system, and PC software
- In coordination with Director, responsible for development of IT policy for the Diocese
- Directs overall computer network administration functions
- Directs installation of operating system software
- Directs telecommunications upgrades and installations
- Responsible for disaster recovery
- Responsible for, including but not limited to, ongoing safety training for staff and review of phishing submissions
HARDWARE
- Directs on-going installation, upgrade, and maintenance of computer and telecommunication equipment
- Directs minor computer hardware repairs/upgrades
- Maintains inventory of equipment
- Manages multisite I.P. telephone system
- Manages Verizon Cellphone Account and Phones
SOFTWARE
- Determines and recommends PC and network software applications
- Responsible for implementation, documentation and maintenance of all custom database applications in use within the Diocese
- In coordination with Director, develops policy concerning software use
USERS
- Responds to the needs and questions of network users concerning their access to resources on the network and the operation of various software programs
- With approval of the Director of Building Operations, Construction, and Properties, allows access to restricted social networks for individual departments.
- Adds/deletes and maintains users, passwords, and access levels for parish/school software programs.
- Performs basic instruction on the use of equipment and software
- Answers client’s inquiries in person and via telephone concerning system operation. Diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems. Recommends or performs minor remedial actions to correct problems based on knowledge of system operation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job is in charge of supervising one full-time employee, Information Technology Administrator.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; and five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have experience in third party interfaces, network connectivity and configuration, and multi-server environments.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a current valid Texas Driver’s License and must attend the Safe Environment Training and earn a certificate.
