What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deli Clerk position at Dilorenzos Specialty Deli + Bakery?
The Deli Clerk plays a key role in both customer relations and operational execution. This position bridges front-of-house service, catering logistics, and overall guest experience. A Deli Clerk is expected to manage the details, systems, and communication necessary to ensure smooth operations and high standards of service throughout the FOH (Front of House).
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead customer acquisition efforts for catering and event business, building relationships and seeking new opportunities for growth by outstanding communication with in house guests.
- Coordinate with GM for all catering, large pre-orders, and special events from start to finish, including:
- Who the order is for
- Date and time needed
- Delivery or pickup details
- Menu selections
- Service style (trays, boxed, buffet, etc.)
- Setup and logistical needs
- Upsell where appropriate to increase order value and improve guest experience.
- Coordinate with the GM to ensure sufficient staffing is scheduled for events, large orders, or off-peak delivery windows.
- Take full responsibility for the cleanliness, organization, and daily readiness of the Front of House, including:
- Beverage stations
- Silverware and paper goods
- Food in the deli cases
- Proper labeling and restocking
- Ensure consistent presentation, product rotation, and guest-facing excellence.
- Ensure banquet room is set up appropriately and on time when in use.
- Accurately take customer orders over the phone and in-person and take payment.
- Communicate with GM a clear game plan for every special order or event as soon as the sale is confirmed.
- Serve as the point of contact for all guest needs, following up on any feedback — positive or negative — and relaying it to ownership and the GM.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with the ownership and GM regarding customer feedback, staffing issues, and operational needs.
- Model and enforce service standards that ensure guests feel welcome before they’re even served their food.
- Participate in daily cleaning and organizational tasks to maintain a professional and guest-ready environment.
- Complete all assigned checklists (Opening, Closing, etc.)
- Have a “ready to help” attitude as opposed to “not my job” attitude
- Any other tasks relating to excellent execution of service as assigned by GM
Accountability & Team Support
As with other roles in the restaurant, the Deli Clerk has access to team resources and support but holds responsibility for ensuring that the tasks above are completed to standard. If something is missed, this role is accountable for correcting it.
Teamwork is essential. All team members are expected to support one another in achieving shared goals. While management will address staff who are consistently underperforming, we are committed to fairness and patience. Any staff member who receives at least two written corrective actions will be reviewed more seriously for possible role mismatch or termination.
