Position Summary
Public Sector Solutions Group (PS2G) seeks a part-time Nurse Coordinator to oversee and support a team of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) serving the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). This role ensures high-quality one-to-one nursing care for special education students during school transportation.
The Nurse Coordinator will serve as the central point of leadership for scheduling, coordination, communication and compliance. The ideal candidate is an experienced DC-licensed nurse with a strong background in pediatrics, disability services, school health, or nurse transport operations. This position requires excellent organizational skills, sound clinical judgment and the ability to collaborate with families, school staff and PS2G leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Coordination & Scheduling
- Lead and coordinate a team of up to 50 nurses assigned to student transportation needs.
- Own the scheduling matrix and proactively identify coverage gaps, conflicts and staffing needs.
- Match nurses to students based on medical needs, skill sets and experience level.
- Conduct routine check-ins with staff to confirm attendance, support needs and route readiness.
Clinical Oversight & Compliance
- Ensure students receive required daily health checks and medication administration consistent with agency policy and physician directives.
- Interpret and communicate clinical information, medical terminology and healthcare regulations to nurses, families, or school teams as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold HIPAA and FERPA standards.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as liaison between families, school personnel, transportation staff and PS2G leadership.
- Present a professional and supportive image of the organization to internal and external stakeholders.
- Resolve concerns related to student care, nurse performance or transportation issues in a timely and professional manner.
Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain accurate, detailed and timely documentation for all assigned students and staff.
- Review and approve nurse timesheets; collaborate with payroll and HR to resolve issues.
- Prepare and submit required reports, incident logs, attendance summaries and compliance documentation.
Operational Excellence
- Work independently while contributing as a collaborative member of the PS2G team.
- Demonstrate emotional maturity, flexibility and strong problem-solving skills during complex or unexpected situations.
- Conduct regular site visits to school bus terminals across the District to ensure compliance and operational readiness.
- Support additional duties as assigned to ensure successful contract performance.
Required Qualifications
- Active DC Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Experience in pediatric nursing, special education support, school health or medical transport.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and overall computer literacy.
- Reliable internet access for remote work duties.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, time management and analytical abilities.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
- Valid CPR certification.
- Proof of negative TB test and current Hepatitis B vaccination.
- Must pass background check, fingerprinting and drug screening.
- Willingness to travel to multiple bus terminals across Washington, DC.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing or coordinating schedules for large clinical teams.
- Familiarity with ADP ezLabor or similar timekeeping/payroll systems.
- Prior experience working with families of students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of District health regulations and transportation safety guidelines.
