Job Description: Heavy Equipment Operator
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our mass excavation and underground utility installation company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery to perform excavation, grading, and utility installation tasks efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bulldozers, front-end loaders, and dump trucks for mass excavation and underground utility projects
- Perform excavation, trenching, and backfilling for utility installations, ensuring proper slopes, depths, and compaction
- Install underground utilities, including water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains
- Perform topsoil stripping, excavation, embankment, sloping, and grading per geotechnical requirements
-Prepare dirt and aggregate subgrades for curb and pavement operations
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance tasks
- Adhere to all safety procedures and OSHA regulations, including proper trench safety measures
- Set up traffic control and safety measures around work areas
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure project goals are met
- Interpret construction plans, specifications, and grade stakes
- Assist in pipe laying and other manual labor tasks as needed
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment, specifically in mass excavation and underground utility projects
- Valid driver's license
- Proficiency in operating excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, and loaders
- Knowledge of underground utility installation techniques and safety practices
- Knowledge of excavation techniques and safety practices
- Ability to read and understand construction plans and specifications
- Strong understanding of soil conditions and excavation techniques
- Experience with GPS-guided equipment; familiarity with Topcon or Trimble systems is a plus
- Physical ability to perform strenuous tasks and work in various weather conditions
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass a drug screening
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed
