About This Role
Digco, a Quanta Services Company, is looking for a Welder with the ability to perform skilled welding work in the underground natural gas distribution industry using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Responsible for welding activities associated with the installation, maintenance, and repair of steel gas distribution systems in the assigned district and surrounding areas. Work is performed using company-provided equipment as part of a construction crew in field environments. This is a company-employed welder position and not a contract or rig welder role. About This Role

What You'll Do
- Perform SMAW (stick) welding on steel gas distribution piping in accordance with approved welding procedures (WPS)
- Complete welding on pipe joints in trenches and excavations, including confined bell hole conditions
- Demonstrate ability to successfully complete a 5G pipe welding test on 4" steel pipe in a simulated bell hole environment
- Perform weld preparation, fit-up, alignment, and cleaning of pipe and fittings prior to welding
- Conduct welding in compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and company QA/QC requirements
- Perform visual inspection of welds
- Maintain and operate company-provided welding machines, leads, and support equipment
- Follow all safety procedures when working in excavations, including trench protection systems and atmospheric monitoring
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding-specific PPE such as welding helmet, gloves, and flame-resistant clothing
- Work in coordination with crew members to support underground utility construction operations
- Perform job tasks in a safe manner in accordance with company policy
- Assist with general site preparation, excavation support, and backfill activities as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized job site and secure tools and equipment daily
- Flexibility of working long hours and the ability to work in all types of weather conditions
- Other duties as required
- Must be a qualified welder in accordance with applicable Appendix C requirements and company welding procedures
- Demonstrated ability to pass a 5G weld test on 4" steel pipe in a simulated bell hole condition
- Experience with SMAW (stick welding) in pipeline or gas distribution applications preferred
- Must be willing to work as a company employee (W-2) using company-provided equipment
- Personal welding rigs/trucks are not required or utilized in this position
- Must be dependable and able to work in a team environment
- Excellent reading skills to understand and interpret welding procedures, safety requirements, and construction signage
- Require passing a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug tests
- Strong attention to safety and quality workmanship
- Willing to travel within the assigned district and surrounding service area as required
- Able to work in high-stress environments with extreme weather fluctuations
- Preferred experience within the Construction, Pipeline or Gas Distribution industry
