What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior SEO & Generative Engine Optimization Architect position at Dig - Digital Industry Group?
DIG is looking for a SEO & Generative Engine Optimization Senior Architect to help lead organic search strategy across our growing client portfolio — and to help define what that means as the landscape shifts beneath everyone's feet. If you've been in SEO long enough, you've already felt this coming: search behavior is changing, AI-generated answers are reshaping how people find information, and the companies showing up in those results aren't leaving it to chance. We want the person who's been leaning into that and is excited about this industry revolution.
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have a deep, current understanding of how Google's algorithm works — and how generative engines like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Claude, and Meta AI surface and recommend content
- Understand that GEO and AEO aren't separate disciplines — they're the natural evolution of good SEO, and you've been treating them that way
- Think strategically about how organic search fits into a client's broader growth goals, not just rankings for their own sake
- Bring technical SEO chops alongside strong content strategy instincts
- Be someone clients trust — you can explain complex algorithm behavior in plain language and help them understand why it matters for their business
- Stay genuinely curious about where search is heading and bring that energy to the team
What You'll Do at DIG:
- Own SEO and GEO/AEO strategy across a portfolio of clients, from audits and roadmaps through execution and reporting
- Develop strategies that account for both traditional search rankings and visibility within AI-generated results
- Partner with content, paid media, and analytics teams to build integrated approaches that compound over time
- Lead client conversations on organic strategy, communicating performance and opportunity in terms that resonate at the executive level
- Help grow and develop DIG's SEO/GEO team and contribute to how the agency thinks about this discipline going forward
- Contribute to thought leadership and new business efforts as a subject matter expert
Qualifications:
- 5 years in SEO, with demonstrated experience or strong working knowledge of GEO/AEO
- Deep familiarity with Google's core algorithm, search quality guidelines, and how generative AI engines rank and surface content
- Experience with technical SEO, on-page strategy, content optimization, and link authority
- Comfortable working across a variety of industries and business models
- Strong analytical skills and experience with tools like Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar
- Excellent communicator who can translate organic strategy into business impact
- Agency experience required
Compensation and Benefits:
- Medical, Dental, Vision, and Short-term Disability insurance (eligible to enroll day one)
- 401K retirement plan with 4% match
- Generous PTO
- Remote and in-office options
- Equity and ownership opportunity through our employee ownership program — we believe the people building this company should have a stake in it
- Compensation:
- Base salary range: $80,000–$120,000/year
- Additional variable compensation: An allocated percentage of managed client revenue, able to generate a 50% increase on base compensation relative to client retention and performance, paid monthly so it shows up in your regular cash flow rather than as a year-end bonus.
Final salary offer will be based on several factors, including job-related skills and experience, relevant education, training or certifications, and other business needs.
