Position Summary

Eminence Dickson Health and Rehab is seeking an energetic, compassionate, and creative Activity Director to join our team. The Activity Director is responsible for developing and coordinating a comprehensive activities program that promotes the physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being of our residents.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working with seniors, bring creativity and enthusiasm to resident programming, and understand the importance of providing meaningful activities based on each resident’s individual interests, abilities, needs, and preferences.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive resident activities program.
• Create and maintain a monthly activity calendar that provides a variety of individual, small-group, and large-group activities.
• Coordinate recreational, social, educational, spiritual, and community-based activities for residents.
• Encourage resident participation while respecting individual choices and preferences.
• Develop activities appropriate for residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities, including residents living with dementia.
• Complete required activity assessments, care plan documentation, progress notes, and other documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in resident care plan meetings as appropriate.
• Plan and coordinate special events, holiday celebrations, resident parties, and facility events.
• Work closely with Nursing, Social Services, Dietary, Therapy, Administration, and other departments to support resident quality of life.
• Communicate with residents and families regarding activities, events, and opportunities for participation.
• Coordinate volunteers, entertainers, community organizations, churches, and other outside groups as appropriate.
• Maintain activity supplies and equipment and assist with managing the department’s supply needs and budget.
• Ensure activity areas and supplies are maintained in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
• Assist residents with transportation to and from activities as needed.
• Maintain compliance with facility policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Assist with survey readiness and provide requested Activity Department documentation during regulatory surveys.
• Attend required staff meetings, department meetings, in-services, and educational programs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Administrator.
  
  
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous experience in activities, recreation, long-term care, assisted living, healthcare, or a related field preferred.
• Activity Director certification or other applicable qualifications preferred or required based on regulatory standards.
• Previous experience working with elderly residents and individuals with dementia is strongly preferred.
• Must possess strong organizational, communication, leadership, and time-management skills.
• Must be creative, dependable, patient, compassionate, and comfortable engaging with residents with a wide range of abilities.
• Must be able to work independently while also collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
• Basic computer and documentation skills required.
• Must be able to meet all applicable employment, background screening, health screening, and facility requirements.
