What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior CAD Designer (Residential) position at Dickinson Homes, Inc.?
Job Summary
Dickinson Homes designs and builds fully custom modular homes. No two projects are the same, and our success depends on drawing sets that are fast, accurate, buildable, and production-ready for an efficient factory build.
We’re hiring a senior-level AutoCAD professional who can take a concept, work through real construction constraints, and deliver clean, coordinated construction documents that our factory and field teams can execute without surprises. This is a high-priority hire for us.
What You’ll Do
- Produce complete residential drawing sets: plans, elevations, sections, details, and revisions
- Translate custom design intent into factory-buildable documentation for modular construction
- Coordinate internally to resolve conflicts early (dimensions, stairs, rooflines, chases, structure, etc.)
- Maintain strong version control and clear revision communication
- Improve drafting efficiency using templates, standards, and a reusable detail/detail-library approach
- (Bonus) Create or support 3D models for coordination and client/design visualization
What Success Looks Like
- 30–60 days: You’re producing drawing updates confidently, learning our modular standards, and improving clarity/consistency in our sets
- 90 days: You’re owning full sets end-to-end, reducing back-and-forth, and helping us move faster with fewer errors
- 6 months: You’ve elevated standards, improved throughput, and become the go-to lead for build-ready documentation
Required Qualifications
- 5 years professional AutoCAD experience producing residential construction documents
- Proven ability to deliver full drawing sets end-to-end (not just markups)
- Strong understanding of residential construction and buildability
- High attention to detail with the ability to work fast under deadlines
- Clear communicator who works well in a collaborative environment
- Work samples or portfolio available
Preferred (Big Bonus)
- 3D modeling experience (SketchUp preferred; Revit or similar welcomed)
- Experience with modular, panelized, or manufacturing-driven documentation
- Experience improving drafting systems (standards, layers, templates, detail libraries)
- Interest or ability to mentor and help lead as we scale (real growth opportunity)
Benefits
- 401(k)
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8-hour
- Location: In person
Full-Time Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000
