Duties
- Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures by preparing equipment and monitoring patient status.
- Perform animal restraint and restraint techniques to ensure safety for both animals and staff during procedures.
- Conduct laboratory tests, analyze samples, and record results accurately to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Maintain detailed medical records, including vaccination history, treatment notes, and laboratory results with precision.
- Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments following veterinary protocols while ensuring proper aseptic techniques.
- Support pet grooming, pet care routines, and kennel management to promote animal comfort and well-being.
- Handle various animals including dogs, cats, and equines with confidence using proper animal handling and dog training techniques.
- Operate diagnostic equipment such as X-ray machines while adhering to safety standards and veterinary terminology standards.
- Assist with dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and performing animal dentistry support tasks.
- Contribute to veterinary critical care when needed by monitoring vital signs, managing emergency situations, and providing animal husbandry.
Requirements
- Proven veterinary technician experience with a strong background in animal physiology, anatomy, and veterinary terminology.
- Kennel experience combined with knowledge of pet grooming, pet care, and animal husbandry practices.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, X-ray operation, and aseptic technique procedures.
- Skilled in animal catheterization, restraint methods for various species including dogs and horses, and pet grooming techniques.
- Ability to handle animals confidently using proper restraint techniques for safe examinations or procedures.
- Knowledge of equine experience is a plus but not mandatory; a willingness to learn is essential.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members and educating pet owners about animal care needs.
- Certification as a licensed veterinary technician or equivalent is preferred but not required; relevant veterinary technician training is essential.
