About Education and Support Specialist Role:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education and Support Services Specialist is responsible for managing, coordinating, and executing education and support initiatives that promote, maintain, and improve the health of individuals and communities at risk for diabetes. This role supports the Diabetes Foundation’s prevention and education programs through effective project management, ensuring education initiatives are planned, implemented, and evaluated successfully. The position will oversee and manage education initiatives throughout the state, including the development, coordination, and promotion of programs in English and Spanish. This role will work collaboratively with community partners and stakeholders to identify referrers to advocate for better health and engage new participants to seek support through the foundation. In addition, this role will coordinate and support in-person and virtual education events, presentations and trainings. The position is also responsible for overseeing marketing efforts to increase awareness of and engagement in DF’s education programs. This position is full-time.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement, market, and support DF’s diabetes education and prevention initiatives, including in-person and virtual education events & classes
- Collect, track, and analyze data for education programs, events, and program impact using UniteUs, Constant Contact, and Excel, in collaboration with diabetes educators
- Serve as liaison to health professional contractors and collaborate with NJ Department of Health entities, CDEs, and ADCES to develop and execute education (including DSMES) programs statewide
- Oversee reporting and management of assigned health education grants and support completion of annual ADCES Status Report
- Support the development and improvement of health education and promotion programs (workshops, conferences, and community presentations)
- Create and distribute health education materials, including weekly and monthly newsletters, and support participant outreach efforts (including reminders of educational classes & programs)
- Assist with weekly Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday evening education/social support programs as needed by educator
- Attend DF fundraising and community events and support education programs across New Jersey to assist diabetes educators, including travel as needed
- Willing to be flexible with work schedule and attend weeknight and weekend events as needed.
Core Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree with specialty in public health and marketing preferred; experience working in a healthcare or community education/outreach environment is a distinct advantage
- Proficiency in MS Office suite (especially PowerPoint & Excel), database entry, and Constant Contact;
- Spanish language preferred
- Highly knowledgeable about the challenges faced by those living with diabetes and how to assist
- Organized, self-motivated individual with strong ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing needs

- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact with a diverse population; empathetic listener
- Adhere to the highest ethical standards and exercise discretion when handling confidential information

- Willingness to adjust hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the Diabetes Foundation as needed
- Valid and unrestricted driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
