POSITION SUMMARY:

The function of this position is to assist the on-site audiologist or physician to make the clinic more efficient and more productive, while performing basic audiology tests. Services provided by an audiology tech include, but are not limited to: providing supervised basic diagnostic services (comprehensive audiogram, ABR, VNG), documenting testing and its results in the EMR and assisting with various clerical and administrative tasks. Responsible for carrying out automated hearing screening tests on all patients, as ordered by the Audiologist or physician

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :
  • High School graduate or G.E.D. certificate preferred
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program preferred
  • 1-2 years of ENT experience, highly preferred
  • Organizational skills is necessary
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English, bi-lingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
  • Prefer physician office experience


JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :
· Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of proper telephone etiquette, and strong typing skills are highly desired

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice
  • Greets patients and prepares for rooming/testing as needed by completing all pre-exam questions and patient intake duties
  • Intake duties include but are not limited to: height, weight, blood pressure and review of MIPS/MACRA questions as they reside in the EMR system
  • Responsible for performing automated hearing screening tests on all patients Including: comprehensive audiogram, ABR, and VNG
  • Present screenings to physician or audiologist for review
  • Follow infection control procedures established by the health system
  • Recognize problems with screening equipment, troubleshoot as necessary and report any recurrent or unresolved problems to the supervisor
  • Notify supervisor of any problems with patient care equipment, or supplies in the clinic
  • Daily cleaning and disinfection of multi-patient use audiological supplies and booth, chairs, transducers, etc.
  • Document clinical activities by utilizing appropriate software and procedures set forth by the clinic supervisor or Physician orders
  • Maintain hearing aid productivity by transitioning patients directly into product discussions with an Audiologist or physician when hearing tests shows the possibility of improved communication through amplifications
  • Scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling patient appointments as needed to ensure efficient operation of the clinic
  • Patient insurance verification, authorization performed as needed in order to facilitate patient visits
  • Will act in the capacity of clinic MA as needed based on patient/clinic needs
  • Monitor inventory supply levels and notify appropriate personnel for ordering. Maintain appropriate supply levels with screening equipment
  • Other duties as assigned.

AGE SPECIFIC:

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.

B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
