Ideal Candidate: The Carpenter I is responsible for building and assembling wooden crates, skids, pallets, and other custom packaging solutions in support of DGM’s warehouse and packing operations. This entry-level carpentry role focuses on quality workmanship, safety, and efficiency while meeting DGM standards and customer requirements. The Carpenter I, works collaboratively with packing and warehouse teams and performs assigned tasks under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assemble and construct wooden crates, skids, pallets, and other specialized packaging.
- Measure, cut, and prepare lumber to required specifications using hand and power tools.
- Read and follow basic crate drawings, measurements, and packing instructions.
- Install internal crate components such as blocking, bracing, runners, or supports to ensure freight stability.
- Select and inspect wood materials to ensure they are clean, compliant, and suitable for use.
- Apply required heat stamps and markings to finished crates in accordance with export and compliance requirements.
- Inspect completed crates to verify structural integrity, accuracy of dimensions, and readiness for packing.
- Coordinate with packing agents and warehouse staff to ensure crates are built on time and ready for packing operations.
- Safely operate hand and power tools, including nail guns, staple guns, saws, and drills.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and company property in good working condition.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the Warehouse Lead or Supervisor.
QUALIFICIATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- 1–2 years of experience in carpentry, crate building, warehouse operations, or a related field.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Forklift 12k and pallet jack experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret basic measurements, crate dimensions, and packing instructions.
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools commonly used in carpentry, including saws, drills, nail guns, and staple guns.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and apply basic math skills.
- Understanding of basic lumber types, material selection, and structural support concepts.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY EXPECTATIONS
- Work is performed primarily in a warehouse environment, with occasional work in outdoor or semi-covered areas depending on operational needs.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas, including build stations, tool storage, materials, and common areas, in accordance with company housekeeping standards.
- Must consistently follow written work instructions, SOPs, and safety protocols, particularly those related to carpentry, tool operation, and material handling.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as mandated by task, equipment, or work environment, including but not limited to safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
- Safely operate and handle hand tools, power tools, pallet jacks, and forklifts in accordance with training and company policies.
- Expected to identify and promptly report any safety hazards, equipment concerns, or quality issues to supervision or the QHSE department.
- Must be able to navigate warehouse floors, staging areas, and material storage locations safely and efficiently.
- Regular exposure to dust, noise, vibration, temperature changes, and physical labor conditions typical of carpentry and warehouse operations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, production-driven environment while maintaining safety, quality, and accuracy standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb stairs or ladders throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50–75 lbs. unassisted when handling lumber, crates, pallets, and materials.
- Regular use of hands and arms to measure, cut, assemble, fasten, and position materials, including repetitive use of hand and power tools.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read measurements, markings, drawings, labels, and inspect finished products for quality and accuracy.
- Adequate hearing to receive instructions, communicate with team members, and respond to alarms or warning signals in a noisy environment.
- Clear verbal communication skills for in-person coordination with supervisors and team members.
- Ability to sustain physical activity for extended periods and adapt to varying physical demands based on production requirements.
- Ability to occasionally use basic computer or scanning equipment for job tracking, documentation, or inventory purposes.

WORK SCHEDULE
