This role is responsible for performance of quality assurance activities in support of McDowell Valley Winery bottling production. The position supports bottling production through wine delivery, wine line sanitation, wine analysis for bottling and package inspection. The technician follows work instructions to assure product conforms to bottling specification, maintains quality records and aids the production team in problem identification and analysis.  This position collects and organizes data in support of problem solving and continuous improvement

This is a day shift position, working 5am - 3:30pm.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

A Quality Technician II, prepares bottling specifications from JDE data, supports bottling production, provides wine delivery from cellar bottling tanks to the production line, performs quality control checks on materials and products during the production cycle to ensure items meet specification and food safety regulations are met.  The technician identifies root cause issues, analyses problems, recommends and documents corrective actions and prepared reports and recommendations to quality department management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follows good manufacturing practices (cGMP) in performance of job assignments and communicates issues and opportunities for improvement to department personnel.
  • Work practices conform to the RSW quality management system requirements, work instructions, HACCP and food safety standards.  The QC Tech II will hold all production employees accountable to best practices and documented work instructions.
  • The technician shall audit production work practices for conformance to work instructions, completion of quality records and documented HACCP procedures and records.
  • Wine delivery to bottling production lines.  Using cellar work orders set pumps, and wine lines from bottling tanks to fillers.  Clean and prepare wine lines, deliver wine to the bottling line filter and assure that lines are sanitized, rinsed and the wine at the filler conforms to specification.  Disgorge nonconforming wine and maintain tools, fittings and hose under sanitary conditions.
  • Creates bottling line specification work instructions from the JDE production information database. and communications requirement to bottling production
  • Investigates bottling and material issues and creates incident reports and logs to document findings.
  • Generates hold records for non-conforming materials and finished goods
  • Perform routinely scheduled packaging bottling line audits including but not limited to:
      • Wine attributes for bottling using analytical instruments
      • Confirms package attributes using test equipment
      • Visual inspection of finished packages and work in progress
      • Inspect incoming packaging material for compliance with specifications
  • Leads production tests and evaluation of new materials providing, analysis written reports and recommendations to management

Qualifications:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduate or GED
  • 2-3 years' experience with wine production or manufacturing process control
  • Communication skills in written and verbal English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 Year Associate of Science (AS) or
  • Food or wine production experience - 5 Years
  • Food sanitation or food safety training or certification
  • Ability to communicate in a small group setting
  • Food Safety and Quality Management System experience
  • Microsoft Suite – Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, a plus

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, PROFESSIONAL DESIGNATIONS

  • A clean, valid California driver’s license and maintain required auto insurance.

SALARY RANGE:   $22 - 24/hour. This hourly base salary range reflects the expected hiring range for this position. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within California and refers to the amount DFG Beverage is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted salary range based upon the candidate's geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
