Duties

  • Review and validate military out-of-service claims and a small number of civilian claims. This involves researching unclear claims and communicating directly with the claimant for clarification.
  • Manually calculate payments for members based on board directives and claim research. This often involves reconstructing records and computing multi-year tax and pay information.
  • Prepare payment vouchers after claim adjudication. Reconstruct and correct the appropriate pay systems (DJMS and MCTFS) to accurately reflect the necessary adjustments.
  • Analyze records, determine corrective actions, and input transactions to correct military records and review claims, using knowledge of active duty, reserve, and out-of-service pay systems.
  • Utilize various automated systems to accurately review and process claims and corrective actions.

Qualifications

Time-in-Grade: Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks, must meet the time in grade requirement. To be considered for the GS-06, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-05 or higher in the Federal service. To be considered for the GS-07, applicants must have served 52 weeks as a GS-06 or higher in the Federal service.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-05 if applying at the GS-06 level, or GS-06 if applying at the GS-07 level) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

GS-06 Specialized Experience is defined as: research, interpret, and apply a wide range of military pay regulations and laws to identify problems and recommend solutions.

GS-07 Specialized Experience is defined as: research, interpret, and apply a wide range of military pay regulations and laws to resolve a wide range of issues and use of various automated systems to accurately process claims and corrective actions.

  • In accordance with Department of Defense (DoD) Instruction 1300.26, "Operation of the DoD Financial Management Certification Program," this position requires a Level 1 Certification under the DoD Financial Management (FM) Certification Program as a condition of employment. If he or she is not already certified at this level, the incumbent of this position must obtain this certification within two (2) years of entry on duty into this FM position. Once certified, the incumbent must meet the continuing education training requirement as outlined in DoDI 1300.26.
