Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. Located at our Day Academy in Highland, NY, this position conducts individual and/or group therapy as required by the student’s IEP. Develops and oversees implementation of treatment plans. Consults with education and residential staff on Behavior Modification and other treatment techniques in the classroom. Assists in crisis intervention as needed The School Clinician will:

Qualifications
EDUCATION: Masters degree in psychology, social work or related field. Licensure or certification as a social worker, psychologist, school psychologist or guidance counselor required
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of experience working with a developmentally disabled population, or graduate study in specific treatment methods applicable to this population. Prefer experience with behavior modification and experience in a coordinating or supervisory position. Strong interpersonal skills required. Must be able to get along with many diverse personalities. Must handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid decisions. Incumbent must possess writing skills adequate to convey complex issues and concepts in a concise and intelligible manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Free of dependency and abuse of illegal or illicit drugs, alcohol, inhalants or other chemical substances. Significant, prolonged, and frequent amounts of walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, and lifting of 20 or more lbs. is required.
Devereux has a zero-tolerance policy for abuse and maintains policies and procedures to systematically reduce the risk of abuse to occur in our organization. Devereux fosters a culture of reporting abuse, and will cooperate with the authorities to the fullest extent possible.

- Develop therapeutic relationship with students. Conduct therapy sessions as needed. Develop therapy goals and methods that can be integrated into other aspects of student’s program.
- Attends Committee on Special Education (CSE) and/or other meetings as necessary in a consultative capacity
- May develop and oversee implementation of behavior intervention plans or other strategies in conjunction with Treatment Team.
- Demonstrates knowledge of principles of learning and training methods based upon positive reinforcement.
- As requested, participates in admissions process, screens referral material, attends screening sessions, and makes observation visits to applicant's current program.
- As needed, communicates with other departments, other agencies and families regarding the clinical status of specific students.
- Consults with other staff as needed on treatment issues, report writing, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by administration
