Description:
The Laboratory Assistant supports the laboratory and quality control team by performing essential tasks related to sample management, data entry, and testing. This role ensures accurate and timely processing of samples and results, contributing to high-quality service for customers and compliance with quality standards.
Key Responsibilities

Sample Management:
- Receive and check in samples upon arrival, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of sample inventory and reports.
- Data Entry & Reporting:
- Enter test results into the laboratory information management system (LIMS) with precision.
- Prepare and send finalized results to customers in accordance with established protocols.
- Testing Support:
- Support Quality Control (QC) sample testing and archiving, maintaining compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Perform Pellet Density Index (PDI) testing and reporting, ensuring timely and accurate documentation for pellet quality decisions.
- Perform mycotoxin testing using lateral flow strip tests, following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.
- Conduct commodity sample testing using a Near-Infrared (NIR) instrument, ensuring accuracy of results.
- General Laboratory Duties:
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Adhere to all quality and safety guidelines.
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree or coursework in chemistry, biology, or related field preferred.
- Experience
- Previous laboratory experience is an asset but not required; training will be provided.
Core Competencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and ability to work with Access databases.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Ability to follow SOPs and detailed instructions.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
Experience Helpful (Training Provided)
- Familiarity with HACCP principles and feed or food quality systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
- Comfortable working with chemicals and ingredient samples under controlled conditions. Handle laboratory equipment safely.
- Strong interpersonal relationship building, with the ability to follow detailed instructions and communicate to various groups.
- Ability to lift, drag, pull, carry up to 75 pounds.
