CNC Lathe Operator / Setup – First Shift

Position Summary
The CNC Lathe Operator / Setup is responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC lathes in a high-mix, low-volume machining environment. This role requires the ability to read blueprints, perform setups from start to finish, and ensure parts meet quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform machine setups on CNC lathes (work holding, tooling, offsets, program verification)
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Install and adjust cutting tools and inserts
- Make program edits as needed
- Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material properties and tolerances
- Run first piece inspections and support quality checks
- Perform In-Process inspections using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.
- Troubleshoot base machining issues such as tool wear or dimensional variation
- Maintain accurate job documentation, time tracking, and quantity produced
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment following company and OSHA safety standards
- Locate, assemble, and verify correct tooling according to work instructions and job documentation
- Load, verify, and run CNC programs; confirm correct revision level and match to process plan
- Safely operate the CNC in both manual and auto mode
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure jobs are completed on schedule and maintain quality standards
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years CNC lathe setup experience preferred
- Ability to read blueprints
- Experience using precision measuring instruments
- Ability to perform setups with minimal supervision
- Experience with HAAS controls preferred
- Experience in a job shop or high-mix environment
