Position Summary
In accordance with the agreement between the Organization of School Administrators (O.S.A.S.) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroi the following vacancy is announced:
As a key contributor to the District’s Office of Communications, the School Web Content Manager will work with cross-functional teams in order to meet the goals for the District’s public website and intranet. This includes supporting and working directly with end users, organizational stakeholders, and school staff.¿ The School Web Content Manager will review and refine published content, provide feedback and technical assistance to web content managers to ensure continuity of themes, engaging layouts, streamlined navigation and accessibility across the District’s public website and intranet, and codify knowledge and materials created by schools and central office departments that can be reused, repackaged, and improved upon by others.

Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess and provide evidence of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools or an equivalent higher education agency in User Experience Design, Computer Science, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of work experience.
- Three (3) years of work experience designing and implementing websites or web applications
- Strong experience with front-end web technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Experience with content management systems is preferred (Finalsite, Blackboard, WordPress)
- Experience with information architecture and user experience design methodologies including (but not limited to) contextual inquiry, heuristic analysis, open/closed card sorting, use case and process documentation, wireframes and storyboards, prototyping, design studios, and/or workshop moderation is strongly preferred
- Experience with Adobe Express
- Experience in using AI such as Chat GPT
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills; demonstrated experience with technical writing is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of interface design and graphic design best practices
- Knowledge and understanding of accessibility and disabilities, and the ability to design and develop against WCAG 2.1 heuristics
- Support the development of websites, channels, sections, applications and pages for District departments and schools on detroitk12.org
- Help develop and implement a technical support plan for the external website, including resolving or escalating requests submitted by department and school content managers and inquiries submitted by internal and external users
- Develop guidelines and provide guidance and implementation support to department and school web content managers and stakeholders regarding information architecture, content strategy, user experience design, and occasional custom page and interface component development
- Conduct regular audits of the public website and school websites and implement plans to rectify issues including, but not limited to: Accessibility: WCAG 2.1 heuristics
- Brand identity: Voice and tone; use of colors, typography, and logos
- Quality: Grammar, spelling, image composition
- Governance: Assisting with identification of non-compliant, redundant, outdated, and/or trivial content
- Consistency with and relevance to the District’s strategic plan
- Work with the Technology Training and Development department to integrate best practices and trends in remediation into future conte5nt manager training modules
- Work across teams to identify opportunities for integrating District- and school-level data, resources, and news for display on internal and public-facing web pages, provide input on implementation details, and implement agreed-upon solutions
- Regularly monitor and analyze web analytics to suggest improvements to the District’s external web presence
- Administer content manager permissions for the public and school websites
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor, Office of Communications
