Job Summary
The Detroit Athletic Club is seeking passionate, professional, and engaging Group Fitness Instructors to deliver high-quality fitness experiences for our members. This role is responsible for leading safe, effective, and motivating group fitness classes that align with DAC’s commitment to excellence, hospitality, and member experience.
Group Fitness Instructors play a key role in building community, driving member engagement, and supporting DAC’s mission to help members live better, move better, and perform at their best.
Key Responsibilities:
Class Instruction & Member Experience
- Lead dynamic, safe, and engaging group fitness classes for members of varying fitness levels
- Modify exercises and cue proper technique to ensure safety and inclusivity
- Create a welcoming, motivating environment that encourages consistency and camaraderie
- Arrive prepared, on time, and ready to deliver a professional experience every class
Programming & Standards
- Deliver classes that align with DAC programming standards and brand expectations
- Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and continuing education
- Maintain consistency in class structure, energy, and coaching quality
Safety & Facility Care
- Monitor class participants for proper form and signs of distress
- Follow all DAC safety, emergency, and risk-management procedures
- Ensure equipment is set up properly and returned clean and organized after class
Communication & Team Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with Fitness Leadership regarding scheduling, coverage, and class feedback
- Represent the DAC with professionalism, positivity, and strong member service skills
- Support special events, challenges, workshops, or signature programming as needed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, or equivalent)
- Current CPR/AED certification
- Strong communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to coach all fitness levels in a group environment.
Preferred
- Experience teaching in a private club or boutique fitness setting
- Multiple specialty certifications (strength, HIIT, cycle, yoga, Pilates, barre, etc.)
- Passion for ongoing education and professional growth
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lead classes for up to 60 minutes or longer
- Ability to demonstrate exercises, cue movement, and move throughout the studio
- Ability to lift and move fitness equipment as needed
