Position Summary
The Programs Lead, Economic Empowerment oversees multiple high-impact programs serving historically underserved communities, with a focus on BIPOC, LGBTQ , HIV-positive, justice-impacted, youth, and economically marginalized populations.
This role leads a team of four client-facing program leaders and is responsible for ensuring effective coordination, service delivery oversight, operational consistency, and program compliance across Destination Tomorrow’s Economic Empowerment portfolio.
The ideal candidate is a strong people and program manager with deep nonprofit leadership experience, demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent programs in resource-constrained environments, and a strong commitment to equity-centered service delivery.
Program Oversight and Growth
- Oversees youth and adult programming encompassing job readiness and re-entry, education and coaching (including high school diploma and English language programs), life and leadership skills, and performance and visual arts recreation.
- Coordinates program implementation and ensuring consistent delivery across all services, including special events and community engagement initiatives.
- Works with Outreach and Prevention team to produce flagship community engagement events that showcase and recruit for all programs.
- Work with leadership to align Marketing and Communication efforts in line with the agency brand guidelines and program growth goals.
Leadership Responsibilities and Training
- Supervise and support a team of program staff, consultants, and youth interns, promoting team alignment, accountability and consistency.
- Supported by the agency’s Performance Management framework and the Executive Director of Social Services, maintain a high-performing, mission-driven team culture.
- Provide coaching, training, performance feedback, and operational guidance to program leaders.
- Serve as the first point of escalation for program and staff-related issues, resolving or escalating in alignment with agency protocols.
- Serve as DT’s liaison, providing cultural sensitivity training and resources to strategic partners as needed.
Program Management & Service Delivery
- Oversee day-to-day operations, supporting program leaders in executing and monitoring Client Implementation Plans, including:
- Deadlines and milestone tracking
- Resource allocation
- Risk mitigation and escalation
- Grant compliance and documentation
- Monitor implementation progress and service delivery outcomes across programs.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of program activities, participant outcomes, and performance metrics.
- Identify operational issues and implement continuous improvements to strengthen program effectiveness.
Strategic Operations & Resource Coordination
- Support agency strategic goals within Economic Empowerment services.
- Identify opportunities for partnership development and program enhancement aligned with funding and community needs.
- Improve internal workflows and coordination processes to enhance efficiency, service delivery and impact.
- Maintain adequate resourcing for day-to-day operations and special initiatives, coordinating procurement and management of supplies and resources in collaboration with Support Services and Finance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in social work, public health, or similar
- 5-8 years of progressive nonprofit program management or administration experience
- Experience supervising staff and managing multiple community-based programs
- Strong familiarity with NYC community landscape, particularly Bronx-based populations, strongly preferred
- Experience working with BIPOC, LGBTQ , HIV-positive, justice-impacted, and underserved communities
- Experience managing program deliverables, grants, and compliance requirements
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments
- Strong leadership, organization, conflict resolution, and team management skills
- Ability to operate effectively in resource-constrained settings
