Job Description
Position Title: Cutting Floater
Department: Fabric / Cutting
Reports To: Operations Manager – Fabric & Cutting
Position Summary
The Cutting Floater provides flexible support across the Cutting department to ensure smooth workflow and production efficiency. This role assists with spreading fabric, bundling cut fabric, assisting operating the Morgan and Lectra machines, and supporting team members wherever needed within the cutting process.
The Cutting Floater must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and willing to move between tasks throughout the day to help the department meet production schedules while maintaining quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Production Support
- Assist with spreading fabric on cutting tables according to production specifications.
- Support the Morgan machine operation as trained, ensuring fabric is properly fed and aligned.
- Bundle and organize cut parts by style, order, or production batch.
- Label and prepare bundles for the next production stage.
- Maintain accurate component counts to ensure complete kits are delivered downstream.
- Assist with fabric movement, staging, and organization within the cutting area.
- Support cutting operators and team members with setup, cleanup, and workflow needs.
- Rotate between duties throughout the department based on production priorities.
Quality & Accuracy
- Verify fabric patterns, colors, and materials match production orders.
- Ensure cut components remain organized and properly bundled to avoid production delays.
- Report fabric defects, shortages, or issues immediately to leadership.
- Maintain attention to detail to protect quality standards.
Safety & Workplace Organization
- Follow all safety procedures and equipment guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Properly handle fabrics and materials to prevent damage or waste.
- Assist in maintaining safe walkways and workspace conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of fabric rolls and bundles.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions including bending, reaching, pulling, and lifting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Manufacturing or upholstery experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to learn and operate department equipment such as the Morgan and Lectra machines.
- Strong attention to detail and organization.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team.
- Flexibility to move between tasks and assist where needed.
