About the Role
As our Senior Civil/Structural Engineer, you will be the go-to technical authority on major projects. You’ll provide direction and oversight from concept through construction, ensuring designs are safe, innovative, and compliant with all standards. Importantly, you will mentor and guide junior engineers, nurturing the next generation of talent and upholding the legacy of quality built by those before you. Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership: Lead the design of complex civil and structural projects (bridges, roads, drainage systems, buildings, etc.), reviewing and approving plans for accuracy and compliance.
- Project Oversight: Oversee the full project lifecycle – from planning and analysis through design and support during construction – ensuring timely, on-budget delivery with top-notch quality.
- Mentorship: Coach and mentor a team of engineers and designers. Provide guidance, technical expertise, and feedback to develop their skills and ensure professional growth.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and uphold rigorous QA/QC processes. Verify that all deliverables meet applicable codes, DOTD standards, and the high standards of our firm.
- Client & Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with clients, government agencies, and multi-disciplinary teams (structural, civil, traffic, etc.) to align designs with project goals. Serve as a technical liaison in meetings and presentations, conveying complex engineering concepts clearly.
Qualifications
- Licensed PE in Louisiana: Required. Your Professional Engineer license in Louisiana is mandatory for signing off on designs and leading projects.
- 10 Years Experience: Extensive experience (a decade or more) in civil engineering or structural engineering design. Proven record of successful project delivery and increasing responsibilities.
- Engineering Expertise: Deep knowledge of civil infrastructure and/or structural design. Familiarity with bridge design, roadway design, site development, and structural analysis. Able to tackle calculations and review detailed plans confidently.
- Leadership & Mentoring Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and mentor junior engineers. Experience managing engineers/designers, coordinating multi-disciplinary efforts, or serving in lead roles (e.g. Project Engineer, Team Lead, or similar).
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient with standard engineering software and tools – e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, structural analysis programs, and other design software commonly used in civil/structural projects. Comfortable quickly learning new tools as needed.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Capable of writing clear reports and correspondence, and presenting ideas to clients or public stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Able to foresee project challenges (technical or logistical) and proactively develop solutions.
