Performs clerical support services as a Receptionist within the Immediate Care Department in an accurate and effective manner to facilitate departmental efficiency.
  • Professional Duties
    - Greets and checks in patients in the reception area in a timely manner.
  • - Distinguishes between HMO, worker compensation cases, PPO/EPO, and other accounts.
  • - Effectively works with providers and co-workers.
  • - Receives records and processes all patient co-payments.
  • - Answers telephones in a professional manner.
  • - Obtains information from the patient as directed by policies and procedures.
  • - Determines the type of patient insurance and verifies coverage, deductible information and co-payment via the authorization, E-Z cap, internet or by calling the health plan.
  • - Enters patient demographics and Health Plan information into NextGen properly with less a 2% error rate.
  • - Monitors patient flow and traffic in the reception area and notifies the nurse if intervention is needed.
  • - Maintains orderliness of the waiting room and work station.
  • - Maintains and orders office supplies within budget parameters as directed by the Immediate Care Nursing Clinical Manager.
  • - Consistently and accurately balances the prior day using the charge tickets against the cash journal.
  • - Forwards to the Billing Department on a daily basis: charge tickets, cash, cash sheets and the activity sheets.
  • - Closes out the journal, counts the cash drawer, prepares cash balance log and makes the deposit each shift.
  • - Other duties as assigned.
  • - Serve as an ambassador for Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care at all times and positively shape the customer experience
  • - Introduce self and your role

  • - Help others, offering to assist (Ask, how may I help you?)
  • - Do your share. Do what you say you will do and take action, follow through. Be willing to pitch in and help
  • - Let your patients, customers and co-workers know what they can expect from you and follow through
  • - Be an active listener (make eye contact, validate)
  • - Assume a neutral position and suspend judgment of others
  • - Address customers as Mr., Mrs., or Ms. until invited to do otherwise. Never use terms of endearment such as hon, dear, sweetie, etc.
  • - Be accountable for your work
  • - Be sensitive to factors that influence customers and co-worker’s situation including age, gender, culture, race and socioeconomic status. Be observant of others’ social cues (emotions) and respond appropriately
  • - Speak clearly and use understandable language (avoid medical jargon or slang)
  • - Demonstrate appropriate body language and tone of voice
  • - Answer all phone calls with a salutation, introduction and offer to assist (Good afternoon, Desert Oasis Healthcare or Family Hospice Care, this is (your name), how may I help you?)
  • - Speak positively about your work, co-workers and Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care
  • - See the positive in situations and in others
  • - Avoid gossip and negativity
  • - Offer to answer any additional questions that the person, patient or customer may have

  • Qualifications
    - High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • - Minimum of 2 years experience in a health care setting preferred.
  • - Medical terminology required.
  • - Strong customer service and computer skills.
  • - Able to interact effectively with patients and visitors.
  • - Able to work independently.
  • - Current California driver's license and proof of automobile insurance required.
