Description
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) I in the Outreach Services and Wellness Clinic is the entry level position of the Certified Medical Assistant series. The CMA I is responsible for performing basic technical and clerical services for a licensed provider such as greeting patients, taking vitals, assisting providers with procedures and tests and miscellaneous tasks. The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring patients are seen and cared for in accordance with scope of training.
Professional Duties
- Greet patients and introduce yourself with every patient interaction.
- Triage patients, take vitals and document information in patient’s electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with established policies and procedures. Immediately notify provider of any critical patient health information.
- Document brief health history and/or reason for visit in the patient’s EHR.
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKG) as ordered by the licensed provider. Explain treatment/procedure to patient and report critical results to the licensed provider immediately.
- Assist the provider during the examination, as needed.
- Provide each patient a copy of their discharge plan and orders for labs diagnostic tests. Review discharge plan with patient and answer questions that arise. Explain follow-up instructions to the patient.
- Document all patient interactions in the patient’s EHR and inform the provider of any critical information immediately.
- Review patients charts prior to their scheduled visit and obtain needed reports or test results to include with Wellness Prep sheet, including reviewing the patient’s medication list and QHMO print out. And complete all charts (medication list and submitting referrals) by the end of each day.
- Clean patient exam room between patients and at the end of the day. Ensure that exam rooms are stocked with adequate supplies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Serve as an ambassador for Desert Oasis Healthcare and Family Hospice Care at all times and positively shape the customer experience
- Address customers as Mr., Mrs., or Ms. until invited to do otherwise. Never use terms of endearment such as hon, dear, sweetie, etc.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program and current Certified Medical Assistant certification.
- 1 year of healthcare experience, preferred.
- Ability to utilize computers, computer software and other office tech devices. Basic knowledge Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals within all levels of the organization, patients, patient family members, providers and others.
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks to meet established deadlines.
- BLS required within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish, preferred.
- Current California driver’s license and proof of auto insurance coverage.
