The Cultural Arts Supervisor is responsible for the administration of the Dance Program, related youth and adult programs. This position also oversees various arts, music, and theater programming.
Essential Duties
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or related field, preferred
Experience: Two years related experience. Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certified, Classes available through Park District upon hire
Valid Illinois Driver’s License

Essential Duties
- Supervise the dance program to include Des Plaines Dance Academy instructional classes, , Artistry in Motion Dance Company, summer dance camp. Coordinate annual dance recital.
- Supervise Cultural Arts programming including acting, music and art classes.
- Oversee ticket sales and cash control for Cultural Art program performances.
- Assist Business Department with payment schedules for classes, photos and costumes.
- Recruit, select, train, supervise, mentor and evaluate part time and seasonal staff.
- Coordinate all promotional material for all areas of responsibility, including seasonal program brochure.
- Respond to public inquiries and complaints. Provide quality customer service. Assist with parent volunteer committees.
- Plan and manages Cultural Arts budget.
- Prepare program reports and analyzes participant evaluations.
- Visit and evaluates programs throughout the year.
- Purchase all supplies, equipment and costumes for programs.
- Develop policies and operational procedures for staff and programs.
- Plan and implement Dance Idol competition.
- Coordinate and assists with Special Events.
- Work cohesively with Recreation Department and Park District staff.
- Assist with daily operations of Administrative and Leisure Center when the Manager is not available.
- Attend training sessions for professional development.
- Act as District liaison with related groups, local service organization(s) and schools.
- Inform all staff of any changes in policy, procedures or rules handed down by supervisors.
- Coordinate staff to direct patrons in the event of an emergency such as severe weather or fire.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Park District Safety and Crisis Manuals
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Member of a Park District committee as assigned.
