Job Summary
Assist the Supervisor, Mechanical/Electrical in managing and supervising the Mechanical/Electrical Technicians and Automation System Technicians for all campuses. Respond to emergencies; troubleshoot malfunctions; perform complex diagnostic and repair service.
Essential Functions
Assist Mechanical/Electrical Supervisor to coordinate daily work direction for Mechanical/Electrical Technicians and Automation System Technicians for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and installation of electrical, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, and related college equipment at all DMACC locations in accordance with all regulations and codes. Assist in recommending personnel actions related to hiring, compensation, performance evaluation, leave, discipline, grievances, administers personnel and related policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements and the EEO/AA plan.
Assist Supervisor to prioritize workloads to assure proper response and operation. Provide training on the proper use of tools and equipment for Mechanical/Electrical Technicians. Monitor, create, and approve work orders on the CMS. Perform repairs and troubleshooting in all related fields of the Mechanical/Electrical Department on a daily basis at all DMACC locations; involves lifting pushing and pulling equipment.
Assist supervisor in providing information and recommendations for design and development of replacement or new equipment installations, in all related fields district wide.
Act on behalf of supervisor during his/her absence.
Provide emergency system or equipment repair 24/7.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Completion of a related vocational training program equivalent to at least one year/30 semester credits. (One additional year of the required work experience may substitute for the vocational training.)
Four years experience as a DMACC mechanical/electrical tech or six years of mechanical/electrical experience outside of DMACC.
Ability to perform the full range of operations, maintenance and repair of boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical and pneumatics.
Ability to plan, organize, communicate and direct the work of co-workers in all areas of facility maintenance.
Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Universal Certificate.
Ability to move 75 pounds and climb 30 ft. extension ladders.
Valid Iowa driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of individuals coming from varied backgrounds.
Four years experience as a DMACC mechanical/electrical tech or six years of mechanical/electrical experience outside of DMACC.
Ability to perform the full range of operations, maintenance and repair of boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical and pneumatics.
