The Role: Bring Comfort with Companionship
Many of our patients request pet therapy as part of their end-of-life care. Your visits—simply sitting with a patient, offering a gentle nuzzle from a dog, or the calming presence of an animal—can provide powerful emotional relief and reduce feelings of stress and isolation.
This is an unpaid, volunteer position.
Your Responsibilities
· Visit hospice patients who request pet therapy as part of their care
· Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families
· Collaborate with our care team to ensure visits are comforting and appropriate
What You’ll Need
· A Certified therapy animal
· A compassionate, patient-centered mindset
· Excellent communication and listening skills
· Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
· Proof of auto insurance
· Proof of general liability insurance and accident insurance.
· Willingness to complete our hospice volunteer training program
· Ability to pass a background check and adhere to all Dependable Hospice policies
· Your therapy pet must meet all applicable safety, health, and certification requirements
· All certified Pet Therapy Animals, must have a veterinarian verify that the animal is healthy and free of infection, contagious disease and/or dermatological problems; immunizations are current including rabies are are free of parasites.
· All handlers must be at least 18 years old
· If you are a surviving family member of a former patient, one year must pass before participating in our volunteer program
