Physical Therapy Assistant – Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

• Provides direct physical therapy services under the direction of a qualified Physical Therapist and in accordance with the physician’s plan of care, as defined by the state Physical Therapy Practice Act.
• Treats patients to relieve pain, restore function, and maintain maximum performance.
• Assists patients with active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, gait and functional training, transfer activities, and prosthetic training.
• Utilizes physical agents including heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage.
• Observes and reports patient responses to treatment and any changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and appropriate organization personnel.
• Instructs patients in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes, and prosthetic or orthotic devices.
• Maintains timely and accurate clinical documentation, including clinical and conference notes, in accordance with agency guidelines.
• Participates in Home Care Team meetings and in-service education programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program with an Associate’s degree in science or applied science approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
• Current state certification or license as required by law.
• Current CPR certification.
• Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
• Licensed driver with a reliable, insured automobile in accordance with organization requirements.
