The New York City (NYC) Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, Diversity and Inclusion is seeking a Reasonable Accommodations (RA) Associate to assist with employee and job applicant requests for reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the NYC Equal Employment Opportunity Policy, NYC Reasonable Accommodations Guidelines and Procedures, and other applicable laws.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

(1) Receive, log, review, and process applicant and employee reasonable accommodation requests for disabilities, religious observance, and other legally protected needs;
(2) Engage in cooperative dialogue with employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders to determine appropriate accommodations while maintaining job functionality;
(3) Maintain accurate records and track RA requests using spreadsheets and databases, ensuring timely responses and documentation;
(4) Coordinate with other DOT divisions and units, including Human Resources and Law, as well as division supervisors and personnel staff to ensure accommodation decisions align with policy and legal standards;
(5) Assist with training DOT employees in reasonable accommodation policies and procedures; and
(6) Handle administrative duties related to reasonable accommodations, such as drafting correspondence, preparing reports, and managing case files.

Minimum Qualifications


1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described in "1" above; or
3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience including one year of the administrative supervisory experience as described in "1" above;
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Education above the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative experience (but not for the one year of administrative or supervisory experience described in "1" above) at a rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3½ years.


Preferred Skills


Strong organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and case management databases. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for engaging in cooperative dialogue with employees and supervisors. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism. Experience working in government or public-sector HR. Experience in handling reasonable accommodation requests, HR compliance issues, and/or related administrative functions. Knowledge of ADA, Title VII, the NYC Human Rights Law, and EEOC regulations.

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
