We are hiring for one full-time, permanent position located Roaring River Hatchery, near
Scio
, Oregon.
NOTE: this position requires the successful candidate to live onsite as a condition of employment. Because of this, the hiring office will be conducting in-person interviews.

What you will do:
The primary role of this position is to play a role in supporting our work unit by caring for fish throughout the complete hatchery cycle, performing maintenance on grounds and equipment, and assisting in achieving assigned management goals within a fish hatchery environment. Some of the duties will include:
- Care for fish and perform grounds and equipment maintenance and other related duties. Pond, feed, grade, and collect eggs from wild and hatchery fish; shock, pick, and enumerate eggs; regulate water supplies; remove mortality; and recognize and treat fish diseases. Set up and sanitize incubation area and equipment to receive eggs.
- Record and maintain information on amount and type of feed received and fed, water quality, fish mortalities, and liberations. Weigh, count, and load fish and eggs for transfer and liberation.
- Sanitize and ready spawning areas and equipment. Prepare and clean repairs to rearing containers fish feeders, egg trays, and screens. Maintain and repair hatchery buildings and residences, fish pumps, lawn mowers, power tools, roads, and trails.
- Maintain equipment, grounds (lawns, flowerbeds, shrubs, and trees), operate facility equipment.
- Power wash, paint, repair, and maintain buildings, fishponds, and fish culture structures, and clean rearing ponds.
- Operate special equipment including trucks, lawn tractors, generators, fish pumps, lifts, gas and electric power tools, farm tractors with attachments. Service gas-powered vehicles and equipment.
- Meet the public, maintain public relations, answer questions, and conduct hatchery tours.
Note: This position will require the successful candidate to obtain a CDL, an ATV Safety Education Card, and living onsite.

Minimum Qualifications:
- An Associate's degree in Fisheries Technology, Aquaculture, Aquarium Science, Wildlife Technology or Agriculture; OR
- Eighteen months of experience in fisheries, fish culture, fish screens, care of livestock, agricultural research and experimentation, monitoring game or wildlife, or farming.
Note: A higher level degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science or a closely-related degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework will substitute for the Associate's degree.
Requested Skills:
- Ability to conduct work under a variety of weather conditions ranging from heat in summer to cold in winter.
- Experience with fish or hatcheries
- Working with eggs and fry
- Handling adult fish
- Experience with water systems and maintenance
- Operating electronic or mechanical equipment
- Operating liberation trucks
- Performing preventative or routine maintenance on vehicles, equipment and facilities
- Collecting and recording data
- Writing technical or summary reports
- Using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experience with maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment maintenance and repair.
- Comfortable with interaction with the public.
