What are the responsibilities and job description for the Catering Chef Assistant position at DEPARTMENT OF DINING SERVICES?
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum two years cooking experience in institutional or catering operation with proven ability; some computer experience required.
Must have a valid driver's license.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs a variety of tasks such as preparing base ingredients for soups, salads, meats, vegetables, desserts, beverages, etc.; operates all kitchen equipment to include grill, ovens, steam equipment, fryolators and ovens; maintains sanitation and cleaning; may participate in serving food; may receive training in large-scale food preparation; related work as required. Other duties may be assigned.
Included among the Essential duties:
- Assists Chef with preparation, set up and service of meals.
- Assists with weekly ordering.
- Strict adherence to sanitation and food handling.
- Assumes same duties in another kitchen as needed.
- Attends meetings.
- Supervises student employees.
- Adheres to University/Dining Services and safety policies.
- May do data entry in Food Pro or other related databases.
- May assume Chef duties in absence.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Occasionally supervises student employees.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read/interpret recipes, menus, documentation, safety rules; write reports; speak effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Regular standing, walking, reaching; frequent stooping, kneeling, hearing, tasting/smelling; occasional sitting, climbing; lifting up to 60 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to mechanical parts, stoves, ovens, grills, large kettles; chemicals such as bleach, dishwasher agents, and other cleaners; moderate noise. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
