Property Tax Division Opening Date: November 10, 2025 Closing Date: November 26, 2025 @ 12:01 a.m. Grade: 18 - Administrative Services Salary: $19.73 - $ 28.41/Hourly Position Number: 016303631 Location: Augusta JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is assigned to Maine Revenue Services’ (MRS’) Property Tax Division and is responsible for supervision of State employees assigned to the Administrative Section. Responsibilities require independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters, including interpretation of tax laws, MRS rules and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures. Essential skills include knowledge and experience in supervisory principles, methods, and techniques; the ability to interpret and apply tax laws, rules, and regulations in varying situations; the ability to understand and promote management goals as they affect day-to-day operations; and the ability to effectively coach employees and conduct performance appraisals. REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: Supervise staff assigned to the Property Tax Admin Unit. Plan, assign, instruct, review, and monitor the work of support staff. Coach employees in meeting performance standards. Review input/output of information from electronic information systems and develop/implement quality control standards for data input structures and output quality assurance. Assess unit needs, recommend, and implement improvements and procedures to meet the work goals. This responsibility will include writing and maintaining unit manuals. Participate in interviewing, selecting, orienting, training, and instructing new employees. Provide customer service for incoming calls to the phone queue, assisting users with questions pertaining to property tax and navigation of the MRS website. Coordinate work with external operational units/programs to enhance efficiency and achievement of operational goals. Adjust program/work operations and objectives to meet planned and unexpected change. Analyze personnel, operational, and organizational issues and problems; and develop timely and economical solutions. Advise superiors regarding the work/operations and act as “troubleshooter.” To be successful in this role, you should have: Knowledge of supervisory principles, methods, and techniques. A proven ability to be flexible and adjust to business needs while balancing multiple tasks and priorities. Highly effective communication skills with the ability to identify problems, formulate corrections, and propose recommendations for improvement to management. Strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines. Ability to conduct research, gather information, and analyze results to reach a conclusion and/or make recommendations. Ability to initiate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate administrative activities. Ability to coordinate and integrate the work activities and resources of several projects and/or operational pieces. Ability to effectively interact with others of widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and viewpoints. Ability to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions/recommendations. Ability to effectively delegate work as appropriate. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training, education, and/or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters. The backgrounds of well-qualified candidates will demonstrate the following competencies: Experience supervising staff performing phone customer service Prior performance management experience to include creating standards and expectations for staff, conducting interim and annual reviews, disciplinary action. A proven ability to be flexible and adjust to business needs while balancing multiple tasks and priorities. Strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines is essential. Highly effective communication skills with the ability to identify problems, formulate corrections, and propose recommendations for improvement to senior management.
