Job Title: Track Maintainer
Reports to: Track Supervisor
Position Summary:
The Track Maintainer performs labor intensive day-to-day track and infrastructure repairs and maintenance on the commuter rail system.
Description of Duties:
- Maintaining and inspect the trackway features such as ballast, sub-ballast, ties and rails as well as track bolts and other rail fastening hardware and infrastructure.
- Remove dust, dirt, grease, snow, ice, and waste material from tracks, turnouts, grade crossings and structures.
- Cut rail and replace rail sections.
- Load and unload work trucks at the end of each shift.
- Operate heavy equipment, such as, bobcats, loader, grapple truck and any others as needed.
- Perform welding functions, such as brazing and soldering metals.
- Perform demolition of track and restore track for the safe passage of trains.
- Clear clogged track drains and culverts.
- Perform weed and vegetation control and removal on the right of way.
- Clean and maintain work areas in orderly condition.
- Complete departmental training requirements and adhere to safety, personal protective equipment, and Roadway Worker Protection programs.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting-over 100 Ib./over 50 Ib. frequently/over 20 Ib. constantly.
- Stand for sustained periods of time and work in outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat or cold.
- Complete all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED required.
- Mechanical aptitude with at least 1 year of construction or track work experience preferred.
- Ability to comply with all safety sensitive job requirements and testing.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license (CDL A Preferred); be able to obtain a Class A CDL.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug and alcohol screening and be willing to comply with the DTO Drug and Alcohol Policy
